What Toothpastes Are Best for Children

At Dentistry For Children Jonesboro, we believe that Instilling good dental care habits is one of the most important duties of a parent. Proper dental hygiene helps to ensure a healthier and therefore happier life from childhood into adulthood. The most important part of proper dental hygiene and care, is the act of brushing.

The main components of good brushing include, regularity of schedule, water, a toothbrush, and not least of all toothpaste. A child should brush regularly after every meal with a properly child-sized toothbrush to make sure there are no cavity causing food particles stuck in their molars, between their teeth or stuck to their teeth’s surface.

Beyond that the American Dental association recommends fluoride toothpaste to fight the high incidents of cavities and overall tooth decay in children. To help combat the problem of child tooth decay, toothpaste manufacturers do create products that are designed to help make brushing more appealing to children.

The following is a list of toothpastes that have been created specifically for children and also have been presented with the American Dental Association’s seal of accepted products.

  • Benco Dental PRO-SYS® Kids Fluoride Toothgel Bubblegum Flavor

  • Aquafresh for Kids Toothpaste

  • Colgate® for Kids Toothpaste (Dora, Monster High, SpongeBob, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers)

  • Crest Kids® SparkleFun Cavity Protection

  • Hello Kid's Fluoride Toothpaste

  • Oraline Kids Bubble Gum Flavored Fluoride Toothpaste

  • Oraline Kids Bubble Gum Fluoride Toothgel

It is important that children under the age of 10 are supervised during brushing to ensure the development of proper brushing technique as well as to simply make sure it is getting done. Studies have shown that 42% of children ages 2 to 11 have untreated tooth decay, but with a little discipline and help from these kid-friendly toothpaste flavors hopefully the incidents of tooth decay in children will diminish.
